Call of Duty Black Ops
« poslato: 15. jul 2010, 22:01:59 »

More information has been given to us about the next Call of Duty game, Call of Duty 7: Black Ops - developed by Treyarch.

In recent headlines, several major news sources have revealed that development studio Treyarch has started work on Call of Duty 7. Sources over at Activision have now shared some more exclusive information about the next game in the Call of Duty franchise. With a scheduled release date of November 2010 the game is still in full development but undisclosed sources over at Activision have stated that "Call of Duty 7 will be set in recent history, between WWII and present day". Besides this information the sources have also confirmed that some missions will take us to Cuba and South America, hinting again in the direction of a Cold War/Vietnam based game.

Also revealed was that in certain missions the players are able to play as a member of the SAS (Special Air Service), the principle special forces unit of the British Army. One of these SAS missions pitches you in close combat during a mission in the Iranian embassy in London during the 1980s.

It has also been confirmed that Call of Duty 7: Black Ops will feature the popular zombie mode, in which players get to shoot down hordes of zombies, a feature that could not be seen in the Infinity Ward produced Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2.

And last but not least, dedicated servers will also be part of the new Call of Duty game, much to the delight of PC gamers across the world. After Activision fired Vince Zampella and Jason West from Infinity Ward, it seems like they are taking yet another step back from the direction they had taken with Modern Warfare 2 by re-adding dedicated servers.

CoD:Black Ops Game Engine poboljšanja

Treyarch have given an insight into the enhancements they’ve made to the game engine for Call of Duty: Black Ops. Speaking on the official blog, they talk of lighting, physics, explosive effects and character details (amongst other things) and use superlatives like “photo-realistic” and “mind-blowing” to describe the improvements.

“At the beginning of each project, the team at Treyarch digs in and goes to work on engine enhancements with a focus on supporting the demands of the new environments and gameplay for our next title. For Black Ops, it was important to the team to have incredible photo-realistic lighting, huge draw distances, explosive destruction and effects, and mind-blowing character details.”

!We completely re-tooled the lighting system from soup to nuts, integrated texture streaming which makes levels like “Payback” possible, and provided our artists the tools and platform they needed to create stunning characters with detail down to their pores! We also went big overhauling the physics, jungle, water, and fire tech – the list goes on and on. You can see what we’re talking about from our gallery, but no screenshot even comes close to what you’ll be experiencing November 9th 2010!”

Call of Duty: Black Ops Campaign First Look

According to USAToday, Treyarch have been showcasing a Campaign level from their upcoming game, Call of Duty: Black Ops. The mission named “WMD,” is set in 1968 during the height of the Cold War and see’s you use weapons such as a scoped crossbow with alternate ammo! 4-player co-op… you got it!

Read on past the break for USAToday’s Call of Duty: Black Ops Campaign first impressions.

“Hovering above from inside an SR-71 Blackbird, players will send orders guiding a group of four soldiers past a convoy of Russians in the Ural Mountains. They simply point to areas on the screen and hit a button to lead the squad, so don’t expect the complexity of, say, a Ghost Recon. But, similar to the view above an AC-130 gunship in Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, the SR-71 scenario offered a fascinating perspective of the battlefield.

Of course, this is still a Call of Duty title, and once that brief command-based sequence concluded, the story shifts back to the soldier on the ground, as he and his three colleagues attempt to infiltrate a Russian facility.

The players’ character is part of a larger endeavor to stop the spread of Communism. As the foursome moves through the facility, they come to a relay station they must take out. One by one, players will **** off unsuspecting foes with a scoped crossbow. Similar to previous Call of Duty titles, players will click to hold their breath and fire away.
This is when we check out one of the franchise’s new features: alternate ammo that can be changed on the fly. As the group gets closer, they find an area with at least a dozen enemy soldiers, two of which sit by a truck. The lead character switches

from a standard arrow tip on his crossbow to an explosive tip. Once fired, a beacon flashes for a couple seconds and boom goes the enemy. The lead character would eventually switch to an AUG assault rifle that could house attachments, although none were available during this level.

The firefight that ensues is textbook Call of Duty. Chaos dominates as players must navigate streams of bullets to reach their destination. Black Ops seems to follow the footsteps of the Modern Warfare franchise in attempting to deliver a more cinematic presentation, with the team ending the “WMD” level diving off a large cliff.

Overall, the level seemed to deliver the intensity and explosiveness of previous Call of Duty titles, and the SR-71 section left me wondering what other surprises Treyarch might have in store for Black Ops.”

CoD: Black Ops Will Have Dedicated Servers, Controllable Vehicles

By Kris Pigna, 05/14/2010

Treyarch head confirms that the PC version won't use peer-to-peer matchmaking.

Infinity Ward spawned one of the bigger controversies in gaming last  year when they announced the PC version of Call of Duty:  Modern Warfare 2peer-to-peer  matchmaking in lieu of traditional dedicated servers.

That's a  history that won't be repeating itself with Call of Duty: Black Ops, though, as Treyarch  president Mark Lamia has confirmed they're sticking with dedicated  servers. "I think dedicated servers are excellent. I don't see any reason not  to see them unless... well, I just don't see any reason not to," Lamia  said to PC Zone magazine (via CVG). "It seems people like them and we're excited  about what we're doing right now."

Even still, Lamia also said they're working on bringing some of  the console matchmaking features to their dedicated servers, while  maintaining the customizable nature of the dedicated server experience.  "We do work very hard to reconcile the desire to manipulate and modify  those dedicated servers with offering them the persistent experience and  benefits that the console system provides," Lamia said. "We're working  very hard to marry those two things, so people can run dedicated servers  and also participate in the communal experience the console players get  to have, given they're all on first-party servers."

Meanwhile, CVG also reports that a new Black Ops preview in the Official  Xbox Magazine reveals the game won't just have vehicles the player  rides in, but can control entirely. This apparently includes the SR-71  Blackbird we've previously  heard about (and which was previously unclear whether it was  entirely in the player's control or not), as well as helicopters that  the mag "stresses" are fully controllable, which will even provide  helicopter-vs-hellicopter air battles.

Call of Duty: Black Ops is launching on the PC, Xbox 360,  PlayStation 3, and Wii on November 9.
